Research & publications

The Tropical Spatial Sciences Group is linked to the Australian Research Council Key Centre and Co-operative Research Centres listed below within Charles Darwin University.

  • Research programs have expanded rapidly over the last five years.
  • Postgraduate students specialising in spatial technologies play a pivotal role in the development of research centres based in the region.
  • The group has developed advanced training that has been customised for the tropical landscapes Australia and the Asia/Pacific region.
  • The consequence of this training allows postgraduates to realise their potential role in the scientific development of remote sensing and GIS.
  • In recent years CDU's remote sensing and GIS staff have been consistently successful in attracting competitive research grants.
  • The program participants liaise with and provide research support for regional research organisations and government agencies such as DPI, ERISS, DBIRD and CSIRO, etc.
  • Over the years, the team has worked extensively with AIDAB, UN/ESCAP and a range of other funding agencies to design and provide technology transfer programs for developing countries.
