About Us

At Charles Darwin University (CDU), Environmental Remote Sensing and GIS is an area of research strength undertaken by the Tropical Spatial Science Group (TSSG) in the Faculty of Education, Health and Science.

The TSSG is recognised for excellence in research in the use of Remote Sensing & GIS technologies in tropical and desert environments, with research links established at local, regional and international levels with other academic institutions, community and industry.

Spatial technologies at CDU are applied in two key areas:

  1. Cultural & Natural Resource Management (eg Landscape Ecology, Habitat and Land Use Mapping and Change Detection, Savanna Management, Geology and Mining, Wildlife Tourism, Wetland Management and Indigenous Resource Management)
  2. Spatial Analysis Methods (i.e. Digital Image Processing Techniques, GIS/Environmental Modelling Integration, Fuzzy Logic Methods and Spatial Statistics).
